The Aquaculture Center includes:

  • Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) aquaponics greenhouse powered by solar
  • Cold-water species hatchery
  • Marine Aquaculture Lab (located in Bicknell Hall)
  • On-campus ponds, streams, and natural areas

The Aquaculture Center serves as a training center for students and professionals. The cornerstone of the center is the production of our New York heritage strain of brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis). The center includes a recirculation aquaculture system that raises paddlefish and provides training in aquaponics and hydroponics. The school’s marine lab raises tropical corals of various species and ornamental fish like freshwater angelfish and the lined seahorse. Training opportunities are diverse and skills can be applied for positions in state and federal hatchery systems, private aquaculture farms, and public aquaria.
