Take
2.0 g of an air-dry soil sample and place in a 250 mL Erlenmeyer
flask. |
| 2. |
Add
20 mL of Ammonium Acetate solution and shake for 5 minutes on a
reciprocating shaker at 180 oscilations per minute. |
| 3. |
Filter
the solution through a filter paper (number 42) into the
filtration vials. |
| 4. |
Take
5 mL of extract in a beaker, add 5 mL of ammonium acetate and
then read K using the atomic absorption machine |
| 5. |
The
atomic absorption machine gives the concentration of K in parts
per million (ppm) in the diluted solution. |
| 6. |
The
standard solutions used to calibrate the atomic absorption unit
include 0, 5, and 20 ppm K. The standard solutions are prepared
in an Ammonium Acetate matrix. |
