Need to upgrade your office skills in order to advance in your current job or to just assist with making your job easier and less stressful? Consider Morrisville State College’s new medical office courses and study at your leisure from home, or attend courses on campus.

Morrisville is excited to announce the following courses!!!
(Notice that the dates/semesters being offered differ with each course.)

OFFT 116 Medical Keyboarding
16 week on-line course covering development of basic keyboarding techniques, including learning the keyboard by touch, learning to operate the computer and its menus, icons, and functions, and developing proper stroking techniques. Students learn the proper formatting of various medical documents including Chart Notes, X-Ray Reports, Consent Forms, History/Physical Forms, Single-Page and Two-Page Letters, and Two-Page Assessments and Referrals.

Prerequisite: None

This course will be offered in the Fall and Spring Semesters (offered online this spring 2006 semester!!!)


OFFT 200 Medical Coding/Billing
This is a beginning medical coding and billing course designed to provide students with a working knowledge of coding diagnosis and billing to customers or insurance carriers. The first eight weeks focuses the students with the coding of medical diagnosis. The second eight weeks focuses the students in the field of patient billing. MediSoft software is utilized by the student to simulate the medical billing skills instructed through the course. The concepts introduced in this course are general enough to cover most patient billing and accounting software. The software is a popular patient billing and accounting software program. It enables health care practices to maintain their billing data as well as to generate report information. The software handles all the basic tasks that a medical billing assistant needs to effectively perform his/her job.

Prerequisite: OFFT 116 (Medical Keyboarding); OFFT 250 (Medical Terminology)

This course will be offered in the spring 2007 semester and then every spring semester afterwards


OFFT 218 : Medical Office Procedures
This course is designed to introduce students to the variety of tasks and skills required for an administrative medical assistant. Students will be able to understand medical ethics, bioethics, etiquette, legal responsibilities of the physicians, use computer software to schedule appointments, create and maintain patients medical records, bill and collect payment, and understand the method of scheduling appointments. The procedures of banking and payroll are also introduced as part of being an administrative medical assistant.

This course will be offered in the fall 2007 semester and then every fall and spring semester afterwards


OFFT 235 Medical Transcription
This is a beginning medical transcription course designed to provide students with a working knowledge of the transcription of medical documents, including x-ray reports, chart notes, history and physical reports, consultations, office procedures notes, progress notes and letters. The goal of this course is to develop transcribing speed and accuracy, gain skills in editing and proofing documents, and increase knowledge of medical terminology.
3 credit hours
Prerequisite: OFFT 116 (Medical Keyboarding); OFFT 250 (Medical Terminology)

This course will be offered in the spring 2007 semester and then every spring semester afterwards


OFFT 250 Medical Terminology
This course is designed to provide students with a basic foundation in medical terminology that will lead to recognizing thousands of medical terms. Students will have practice pronouncing the medical terms and will also be able to recognize the singular form versus the plural form of terms. Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic human anatomy and correlate this understanding with medical terminology.
3 credit hours
