Mrs. Payette’s Machine Transcription class took a trip to Computers on Hand in Hamilton, New York. This facility focuses on training individuals who are interested in the career of medical transcription work. Many doctor’s office and hospitals outsource the medical transcription functions in and around the Central New York area. Should a individual wish to work out of their home, yet still have a successful career in the medical field, this is a field which is growing in leaps and bounds.
The Office Technology students gained a more thorough understanding of the unique language within the field of medical transcription and how many companies outsource this function rather than employ transcriptionists in their office. Currently, Office Technology students at Morrisville are enrolled in a Machine Transcription course which focuses more on the corporate “business” letters, agenda, reports, memos, facsimile transmission sheets, etc.
The faculty within the Office Technology curriculum at Morrisville State College is currently working to implement a Medical Office Administration program which focuses not only on medical transcription but also on medical billing and coding (another speciality area within a medical office.)
