Transfer Credit Information
Students applying for admission to Morrisville State College from accredited colleges may be admitted with advanced standing. To receive a transfer credit evaluation, a student must submit official transcripts of college-level work to the Admission Office at the time they apply to the college. High school transcripts are also required in most cases. Matriculated students should submit official transcripts directly to their School office. Courses will be evaluated and transfer credit will be granted by the appropriate academic dean or associate dean. The number of credits that have been accepted and how the credit is applied to the students program of study will help to determine the minimum number of semesters that will be required to complete their academic program.
In general, credit is granted when these courses are applicable to the curriculum for which the student is applying, the course grade is a minimum of C or better, and the course was taken by the student in the past seven (7) years. Transfer credit will not be included in the student's Morrisville State College grade point average, but may change the GPA if the course is substituted for a Morrisville course. Transfer credit will not contribute toward a student's residency requirement.
A student may satisfy degree requirements at Morrisville State College by taking preapproved courses at another college and transferring those credits back to Morrisville within a seven (7) year period following matriculation at this college (subject to residency requirements). Students using transfer credits to complete degree requirements shall be graduated and issued diplomas according to the following schedule:
Transfer Credit Appeal Process
The student shall first contact the dean or associate dean that made the transfer credit evaluation to receive the reason or reasons why the transfer credit was not accepted to the satisfaction of the student.
If the student is still not satisfied with the decision he/she may appeal to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The student shall provide the Provost:
Appeal at the SUNY System level (available to SUNY transfer students only) can be found at http://www.suny.edu/student/transfer.cfm under questions about transfer credits.
If the student has not had a response from the campus within 10 business days, or is not satisfied with response at the campus level, he/she can submit appeal to the SUNY Provost with supporting materials. The SUNY Provost or designee will gain additional information from the receiving institution as needed. The SUNY Provost will respond to the student within 5 business days from receipt of completed appeal application.
If SUNY Provost reverses the campus decision on a course, that reversal will apply only to that student, not to the generalized acceptability of the course. All decisions will be officially communicated to the student and the campus provost/ provost's designee.
