I have more than 10 years of experience in automotive repair. What I strive to accomplish is to use this knowledge to not only teach students how to repair and diagnose vehicles, but to instill pride, honesty and integrity in what they do and in the automotive profession.

With wisdom, I may look to the future and see the effect that my teaching will have on my students, and thus adapt my methods to fit the needs of each one. With creativity, I can prepare new and challenging projects that can challenge my students and expand their minds to set higher goals and dream loftier dreams. With love, I can praise my students for jobs well
done and encourage them to get up and go on when they fail.

Retail automotive service is constantly evolving and will continue to do so as long as technological advances exist. This high-tech career field has gone from basic mechanics to one that requires individuals who hold a high level of expertise in mathematics, diagnostics, hydraulics and electrical/electronics along with strong analytical skills.

As a result of this evolutionary change in the automobile industry, demand for qualified individuals who are highly skilled and knowledgeable has never been greater than right now. Are
you up for the challenge?

I have 10 years of teaching experience including high school vocational programs, BOCES, and the two-year college level. I have worked in a variety of automotive settings since the age of 16, ranging from entry level technician, to fleet maintenance, to class A technician in a dealership. I feel that having a range of experiences allows me to better relate to a variety of students. I continue to work in the field during the summer to stay current and proficient.

Through my work experience, I decided to become a teacher for several reasons.

First and foremost I wish to change the public’s perception of the automotive technician and our field in general. The automotive field has changed dramatically in the past five to 10 years. The life of a technician has changed from 80 percent hands-on, to 80 percent troubleshooting and problem solving.

Finally I enjoy imparting my knowledge, skills, and experience to students in an effort to aid in their growth as technicians and as people. I try to assist the students in having every opportunity to grow in a positive direction, wherever that may lead them!

“Experience without theory is blind, theory without experience is mere intellectual play.” - Emanuel Kant

I believe that this is especially important within the automotive field in that students cannot merely recall a set of facts for a test, but rather must be able to apply what they have learned to real world problems.

With the continuing changes and advancements in today's automobile, technicians need to know how the systems work and how they work together.

With more than 10 years of teaching experience and 15 years of work experience, I have learned that when students learn first in the classroom and then go to the lab and see how it works, then will understand it better.

With 20-plus years of teaching experience in automotive and a long background in the automotive service and repair industry, I strive to bring the real world into the classroom.

New students bring a range of varied abilities to the automotive technology program. It is our task to identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop, modify and enhance appropriate behaviors, attitudes, and work procedures through demonstration and practical lab experiences to ensure success in their chosen field.

"Test, don’t guess" is our motto.

Fix it right the first time…..is what we strive for
