Hands on Learning

Usually, when people think of college, they think of reading and books. In our field, you do need to read a little but, many of the things you learn will be through your own experiences. Some activities that provide you with great learning experiences are: the monthly IFSEA dinner meetings; actually booking trips at our student operated Travel Agency; working in the Madison County Tourism Agency; working at fundraisers to earn money for a trip that you would like to be a part of; preparing and serving food at The Y2K Café, our student-operated restaurant; and just the interaction between people on campus.

  • Our programs give you experiences with:
  • SABRE: this Computerized Reservation System is used to book flights on airlines by travel agents, tour operators and cruise lines.
  • Cooperative work experience: over the summer, after your first year, you choose a place to work that is associated with your major. This gives you a look into the world of work where you learn what is expected of you and gives you some spending money!
  • Working on campus at The Y2K Café: if you are a restaurant major, your class actually operates a resturant during the spring semester.
  • These are just a few of the classes that will prepare you for the real world and the events that could happen on a day-to-day basis.
