Alumni Profile: Bailey Sweeting
Hometown: Baldwinsville, NY
Graduation Year: May 2012
Why did you choose to attend Morrisville?
“I first heard of Morrisville because my cousin attended a few years before me. Morrisville State College had a table at the college fair I attended and I requested information to be sent home. I heard about the Dietetic Technician AAS program from the representative and I applied in November. I chose to attend because it was relatively close to home and I was very interested in the dietetics program.”
What did you do after leaving Morrisville? What are you doing now?
“I transferred to Syracuse University to continue my education and received my bachelor’s degree in dietetics. I also took the registration exam and became a DTR (Dietetic Technician, Registered). In December 2013 began working as a DTR at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, New York.”
How did your education at Morrisville get you to where you are today?
“The experiences I gained at Morrisville are by far the most valuable experiences I could have had. The hands-on experience through the course work is something that not many other colleges can accommodate because of their large programs. The dietetics program at Morrisville prepared me for real life job experiences and so much more.”
What do you like about your profession?
“I like that there are a variety of jobs I can pursue. My passion is in clinical but for people that do not want to work in clinical there is community nutrition, sports nutrition, etc. I also enjoy that the registration exam allows me to work anywhere in the world because it is a national exam.”
What professor and/or staff member influenced you?
“Professor Joan Nicholson and Professor Bonnie St. Hilaire were the most influential people I have had in my college experience. They educate far beyond the classroom and set us up for success.”
What was Morrisville like when you were attending?
“It has always been a small but quaint school. I know since I have left there is a new fitness center, which I am a little jealous of.”
What is your favorite memory of Morrisville?
“Meeting lifetime friends, hockey games, and living in the dorms.”
What is one interesting thing about you?
“In September 2011, I met Maroon 5 backstage and in that same day I was 1 of 15 girls pulled up on stage with Train during their song, “She’s on Fire.” Best day ever!”
What advice would you give current students? (In your field or in general)
“Study hard but enjoy your college years as much as possible.”
