Student Profile: Taylor McDowell
Hometown: Eaton, NY
Graduation Year: May 2015
Why did you choose to attend Morrisville?
“While taking a class at a different college my professor told me that if I wanted to study computer programming, which I love to do, than I should look at Morrisville State College for their program. The program has been great so far! I’m really happy to be a student here.”
What activities have you been involved with on and/or off campus?
“I’ve been the MSC Mustang mascot at a lot of campus athletic games and events. I also was involved in the Global Game Jam, which is an event where you create a video game in 48 hours. It’s quite challenging but exciting at the same time. I also was involved with Hackathon, which is creating an app. You create a small app in only 20 hours. Last year, I created a game called ant guiding. I won first prize for that game and the prize was an Xbox 360. It was really fun! It wasn’t just a competition, but it was the learning experience and learning from other competitors that made it fun. We all get to communicate and learn from each other throughout the process.”
What “fun fact” can you tell us about Morrisville that is not well known?
“I didn’t know they provide cooking classes at the Copper Turret. The Copper Turret actually has classrooms for the hospitality students. I’m thinking about taking some cooking classes as part of my electives next semester.”
What MSC professor has influenced you? Why?
“I would have to say it’s my academic advisor, Dr. Richard Marcoux. He really influenced me! There are so many great professors on the campus, but Dr. Marcoux is really trying to help me pursue me career. He’s a really great professor and I love taking classes with him! The strength of Morrisville State College are the professors. They have been great influences to many students.”
What has been your favorite campus event or activity?
“That’s hard to answer, because there are so many great events here. I would have to say maybe the Global Game Jam, because it’s a great learning experience from other programmers.”
What are your plans after college and/or your career goals?
“I plan to work for a computer game program company. I might move to NYC and look at this company called Arcadian (same name as the MSC yearbook). They are looking for C-Sharp programmers, which is what I want to do. I just need to build my resume.”
