Career Planning & Services
Before you visit
- Call ahead at least 4 to 6 weeks to make arrangements with the college.
- Make appointments with the admission counselor, an advisor in your major, coaches, coordinator for special needs students, international student advisor, etc. - anyone who you feel would have important information for you.
- Make sure you will be able to have a campus tour and ask if you can sit in on 1 or 2 classes (at least 1 in your major).
- Arrange to see the college when it's in session and on a weekday. Avoid visiting during mid-term and final exam weeks. Make plans to stay overnight if possible, particularly if you can stay with a friend who currently attends. Many colleges will assist you in making overnight accomodations.
- Review all of the college materials that you have collected: catalog, student handbook, financial aid information, college video, student newspaper, curriculum brochures, etc.
- Make sure you take with you:
- the college's letter confirming date, time and location of your tour, etc.
- college catalog, viewbook, brochures of the campus
- campus map and parking permit (if needed)
- prepared list of your questions
- unofficial transcript of college work and high school (if needed)
- SAT, ACT, Achievement Test, CLEP scores as needed
- airplane, train or bus tickets (if needed)
- confirmed reservation at local hotel (if you're not staying in a dorm)
- camera, money or traveler's checks and credit card
- samples of artwork, architectural designs, audio or video tape of your musical talent, etc. (if needed).
