Recycling In Residence Halls:

Each Residence Hall (except for Commons I & II) provides two bins per room, one for recycling and one for trash. The halls also provide trash bags for students' convenience

What is recycled:

  • Glass
  • Tin
  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Plastics
  • Batteries

Each Residence Hall's refuse/recycling room has specially marked cans for each category. The refuse/recycling room is located on the first floor or in the basement, and is open 24 hours.

In the Commons I & II, students must provide their own bins and bags. Students can purchase these downtown or at the Campus Store. Standard kitchen size receptacles are recommended. The refuse/recycling rooms are open from at least 6 a.m. to midnight each day.

Recycling is mandatory! At the start of the semester, recycling and trash room policies are reviewed at the first hall meeting. Students who do not recycle may be fined.

Recycling services are provided by the Morrisville Auxiliary Corporation (MAC).

  • A six-pack of recycled aluminum cans saves enough energy to drive a car 5 miles
  • Recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to light a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours
  • Recycling a one-gallon plastic milk jug will save enough energy to keep a 100-watt bulb burning for 11 hours
  • Recycling one pound of steel conserves enough energy to light a 60-watt bulb for 26 hours
  • Recycling a one-foot high stack of newspapers saves enough electricity to heat a home for 17 hours
  • Most water bottles are made from polyethylene terephthalate, which is derived from crude oil. American demand for bottled water equates to 1.5 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel some 100,000 U.S. cars for an entire year
