Civil Service/Support Positions fall into two categories:
- Competitive: Eligibility is predetermined by certification of an eligible list; exam required.
- Non-competitive: No eligible list; no exam required.
Civil Service Law requires that appointment opportunities for both competitive and non-competitive positions be given to employees on preferred lists and re-employment rosters before other candidates can be considered. Persons in same or similar state titles may be eligible for transfer.
