General Education Assessment

According to SUNY Policy, each State-Operated campus shall develop and implement an assessment plan to assess, on a three-year cycle, student learning outcomes for knowledge, skills and competency areas included in the SUNY General Education Requirement (SUNY GER).

The task of developing and implementing an assessment plan for General Education shall fall primarily to the faculty members and professional staff who teach in the program. This process is facilitated with the assistance of the General Education Assessment Review Committee, a local standing committee of Faculty Congress.

For the following SUNY General Education Review Skills, Knowledge Areas and Competencies, campus's assessment plans shall include campus-selected assessment measures: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, American History, Western Civilization, Other World Civilizations, Humanities, The Arts, Foreign Language, Basic Communication [Oral], Basic Communication [Written], Critical Thinking [Reasoning] and Information Management.
