Morrisville State women close season with heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women’s soccer team closed out the 2010 season with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to host Alfred University Saturday afternoon in Alfred.

Alfred took a one goal lead 12 minutes into the contest, and nine minutes later Beth Fisher (Bolton Landing, NY) responded for the Mustangs to even the contest at one midway through the half.

In the 30th minute, Alfred regained the lead and maintained the advantage until the 63rd minute when Fisher found Kara Collins (New Berlin, NY) for the equalizer.

With less than two minutes remaining in the contest, Abbey Schaffnit snuck the game winner past Morrisville State keeper Cheyanna Waters (Woodhull, NY) for the 3-2 non-conference victory.

Waters tallied 15 saves in the loss for the Mustangs who conclude their season with a 1-16 overall record.

Morrisville State College offers more than 80 bachelor and associate degrees and options. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
