Wood named ECAC Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Year

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2012 Division III Mid-Atlantic Women’s Lacrosse All-Star Team and individual award winners, naming Morrisville State College freshman attack, Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.), its Rookie of the Year.

The Mustangs completed the 2012 season with a program best 13-6 overall record, claimed the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West regular season title with a perfect 9-0 record, won the NAC West Championship Tournament title, and made a program first appearance in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Championship Tournament.

Part of Morrisville State’s success was due to a stellar freshman campaign by Wood, who tallied a team best 84 goals and 19 assists for 103 team points. Three of her scores were game winning tallies and 23 were on free position opportunities. Wood also tallied 65 ground balls, had 72 draw controls and caused a team high 42 caused turnovers.

The NAC West Rookie of the Year earned first team all-conference honors at attack and was a three time Student-Athlete of the Week selection for the conference this season, twice for offense and once for defense. She also was named to the 2012 Division III Women’s Lacrosse All-Rookie Squad, announced in May.

The graduate of Holy Names Academy in Albany is majoring in liberal arts and sciences: humanities and social science at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood of Duanesburg.
