Teacher at Children’s Center at Morrisville State wins award

MORRISVILLE, NY—A local teacher is among those who received a 2013 Friend of Children Award from the Child Care Council of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County.

Mary St Pierre, of Erieville, a preschool teacher at The Children’s Center at Morrisville State, received the award recently during a Child Care Council of Cornell Cooperative Extension recognition dinner.

The award recognizes the dedication of residents in Herkimer, Madison and Oneida counties who exemplify and promote the ideal of quality health and safety of children either through direct or indirect service and support to families.

“Mary is an amazing teacher who has a passion for literacy which she brings into the classroom,” said co-teacher Cindy Wickens, who nominated her for the award. “She is a wonderful teacher and a true friend of children.”

St Pierre, who has worked at the center for three years, engrosses children in the classroom with a wide variety of activities that encourage learning.

“Children adore and respect her and parents are always complimenting her teaching style,” said Jennifer Britton, director of The Center.

St Pierre earned an A.S. in early childhood education from Cazenovia College and a B.S. degree in elementary education N-6 from SUNY College at Cortland. Prior to working at Morrisville State, she worked at the New Woodstock Free Library as the children’s program coordinator and at New Life Christian School.
