Hanks writes name into record books, scores 1000th point and claims defensive rebound record on same night

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – In a year that has seen several student-athletes post record breaking performances, another was added to the record books Wednesday night, as men’s basketball senior guard and captain Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y. /  Henninger) notched his 1,000th career point on the road at Alfred State College.

Hanks is just the third player in program history to achieve the feat, the first four-year
Division III student-athlete at Morrisville State to cross the milestone threshold.

His 1,000th point came on with 14:25 remaining in the second period, as he completed a three-point play to give the Mustangs a 20 point lead en route to their non-conference win.

The senior also added his name to the top of the defensive rebounding record for the Mustangs in the same contest, claiming the top spot with 362.

A two-time third team All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) selection, Hanks has played an instrumental role in leading the Mustangs to back-to-back NEAC regular season and tournament titles, and the program’s back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Last season Hanks played a key role in guiding Morrisville State to the Sweet 16 round of the tourney.

Hanks played three seasons at Henninger High at guard, winning the Section III Championship in 2008. He is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State, and is the son of Ethel and Shawn Hanks of Syracuse.

The milestone celebration will be acknowledged at the Saturday, February 1st game against Cazenovia, the next home feat for the Mustangs once student’s return from break.
