Emergency drill to be held at Morrisville State College

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State College will conduct an emergency drill on campus in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies on Tuesday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 8.

The two-day intensive training is a mock active-shooter exercise, an essential part of the college’s emergency preparedness efforts.

Members of the Morrisville Emergency Response Team will test their proficiency in handling an emergency and review the outcome of the drill at length. The drill will assist police and local emergency responders in gaining experience responding to an incident in a campus setting. Officers will be armed, but no live ammunition will be used.

Charlton Hall will be used as a specified location for the drill and will be closed to visitors and the general public from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.

Morrisville’s Children Center, Edward R. Andrews Elementary and Morrisville faculty, staff and students have been alerted. All local law enforcement agencies have been made aware of the exercise. Students will be on spring break recess at MSC during the exercise.

Participating are members of the New York State University Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York State Police, Villanova University Police, Madison and Chenango County sheriff’s departments, Cazenovia PD, Hamilton PD and members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Morrisville State College’s curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses. An action-oriented, interactive learning lab, the college is a national leader in technology and has been lauded for its exemplary, innovative and effective community service programs.

The college was ranked among the Best Regional Colleges in the North by U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges 2017 issue and was also recognized in the Top Public Schools, Regional Colleges North in the 2017 Best Colleges rankings.
