Former Morrisville State basketball player signs with Corning ABA team

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Former Morrisville State College forward, Brandon Mitchell (Auburn, NY), has signed a contract to play with the Corning Bulldogs, a member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), for the 2007-2008 season.

Mitchell, 6-foot-9, played two seasons at Morrisville State (2004-2006) where he averaged 9.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.86 blocks per game, earning all-Conference and all-Region honors. Mitchell set the single season and career record in blocked shots, recording 59 in 2004-2005 for the single season record and 106 for a career record.

“Brandon has great potential both on and off the court as he continues to move in the right direction. I wish him well in pursuing his dream of playing at the next level,” stated Brian Murphy, Morrisville State head basketball coach, of Mitchell.

The Bulldogs enter for their first season in the ABA in 2007 and are based in Corning, New York.

Beginning in the fall of 2006, Morrisville State entered its first year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
