Elmira steals win from Morrisville State with last minute goal

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Elmira’s Jeremy Brand (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) hit the game winner late in the contest to steal the 1-0 non-conference win from Morrisville State Tuesday afternoon in Morrisville.

Playing even throughout the afternoon with 14 shots at goal each, Brand was able to sneak the lone goal past Morrisville State keeper, Anthony Woods (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), hitting the left upper corner of the net with 1:11 remaining in the game. Woods tallied seven saves in the loss for the Mustangs.

Jon DePrimo (Elmira, NY/Southside) saved seven in net for the Elmira Soaring Eagles (1-0).

Morrisville State falls to 1-1 overall and return to the field Saturday at Purchase College.

Morrisville State enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2007. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
