Kristen Mellen leads Hartwick to win over Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Kristen Mellen (Hillsdale, NY/Taconic Hills) recorded a hat trick Tuesday afternoon to lead visiting Hartwick College over Morrisville State women’s soccer by a final 7-0 on Lemery Field in Morrisville.

Mellan put Hartwick on the scoreboard just 3:02 into the contest, registering the eventual game winner from the top of the box.

Morrisville State keeper, Katie Tiffany (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter) recorded nine saves in the loss for the Mustangs who fall to 0-9-1 on the season.

Ashley Taylor (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) recorded the shut out win for Hartwick, saving two, who improves to 3-6-0 on the season.

Morrisville State returns to the field on Friday at Fredonia.

Morrisville State enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2007. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
