Grimes hits game-winner at buzzer in basketball win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - SUNY Oneonta’s Mike Grimes hit a jumper at the buzzer to give the Red Dragons the thrilling 69-68 win over Morrisville State Friday night in Morrisville.

Morrisville State led by as many as nine in the closing minutes of the game before Oneonta battled back within striking distance in the closing seconds.

With 26 seconds remaining on the clock, Grimes recorded a steal and was fouled as he made the layup to tie the contest at 66. Missing the free throw, Grimes collected the offensive rebound and again was put on the foul line. Hitting the second of the two, Oneonta led 67-66 before Dodrick Spencer (Brooklyn, NY) made a lay-up to give Morrisville the one point advantage with seven seconds remaining. Grimes gave Oneonta the stunning victory, hitting a jumper from the right elbow as time expired.

Grimes tallied five of his nine points in the final 26 seconds of the contest for Oneonta.

Spencer led all scorers with 22 on the night, adding eight rebounds and six assists to his tallies. Debo Olasokan (Brooklyn, NY) added 14 and Terrell Armstead (Flushing, NY) 12 to the Mustang totals.

Robert Fisk led Oneonta with 19 as teammates Eljawon Arrington and Rob Fitzgerald added 15 and 12 respectively.
Morrisville State falls to 3-5 overall, 0-3 in SUNYAC play.
