Morrisville State's Chelsea Thomas named to 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College field hockey freshman defender, Chelsea Thomas (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) has been recently named to the 2007 ZAG/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad.

The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.

Thomas, an agricultural business major at Morrisville State, started all 18 games this season at defense, excelling both on the field and in the classroom.

A 2007 graduate of Schuylerville High School, Thomas is the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Thomas of Schuylerville, New York. She is the first Morrisville State field hockey student-athlete to receive this honor. In the fall, she was named to the 2007 SUNYAC All-Academic Team.

Morrisville State enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2007. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
