Morrisville State men fourth at Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-off Tourney

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Morrisville State College men’s basketball team placed fourth overall at the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-off Tournament hosted by Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.

On Friday, Morrisville State fell in the opening round by a final 64-47 to Kings College. DaShawn Coleman (Syracuse, NY) paced the Mustangs with a 14 point, two rebound performance while Stephen Grant (Staten Island, NY) added eight points and five rebounds to the Morrisville State tallies.

Kings Mike Wagner led all scorers with 19 points and three boards while Harry Schlichter added 12 points and two rebounds in the win for Kings (3-0).

In the consolation round on Saturday afternoon, Morrisville State trailed Penn College 32-25 at the half before battling back to within six but fell short on time as Penn picked up the 62-56 win for third place.

Coleman led the Mustangs with 16 points and five boards. Garnell Vaughn (Syracuse, NY) added ten while grabbing four rebounds and three steals as Elonzo Wilson (Syracuse, NY) netted eight points, snagging nine boards and stealing three.

Penn College’s Greg Solyak led all scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds while Joe Simon added 17, grabbing seven boards.

Morrisville State (0-3) returns to the court Tuesday, December 2nd against SUNY New Paltz in Morrisville.

Morrisville State enters its third year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2008. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 75 bachelor and associate degrees and options. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
