Hamilton tops Morrisville State men's lacrosse 15-3

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Hamilton College scored 10 unanswered goals in the third and fourth quarters and the Continentals cruised to a 15-3 non-league win against visiting Morrisville State College in a men's lacrosse game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on March 7.

Kevin Coughlin '09 and Austin Deyo '09 helped lead the Hamilton offense with three goals and two assists apiece. Kevin Behr '11 added two goals and one assist. Ten different players scored at least one goal for the Continentals, who were playing their season opener.

Max Vaickus '12 made his first collegiate start in the Hamilton goal and made four saves. Garrett Akie '12 replaced Vaickus in the fourth quarter and stopped two shots. Paul Citarella '12 won 8-of-12 faceoffs and picked up six ground balls.

Eric Stein '11 scored two goals and Andrew Elsmore '09 tallied his fourth this season for Morrisville (1-1 overall). Stein collected seven ground balls and won 6 of-14 faceoffs.

The Continentals led 3-0 after the first quarter and made the score 4-0 early in the second when Stephen Lefebvre '11 scored with 15 seconds remaining on a 3-minute illegal equipment penalty on the Mustangs. Morrisville ran off three straight goals to pull within one, but Stein's second of the game with 2:16 left before the break was the final goal for the Mustangs. Alex Duncan '10 gave Hamilton a 5-3 advantage at the half on an unassisted goal with 17 seconds remaining.

The Continentals scored twice in the third period to push their lead to 7-3, and then blew the game open with eight goals in the final 15 minutes. Hamilton held a commanding 54-13 advantage in shots and picked up 41 ground balls to 24 for Morrisville. The Mustangs were successful on just 10-of-22 clearing opportunities and went 0-for-4 with the extra man.
