Caffarelli named Morrisville State College "Athlete of the Week"

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletic department has recently named women’s lacrosse midfielder Jennifer Caffarelli (Phillipsburg, NJ) the Mustang “Athlete of the Week” for the week ending April 5.

Caffarelli was recently named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women’s lacrosse player of the week for her performance throughout the week’s competition.

Caffarelli recorded 16 goals and three assists in two games for Morrisville State, leading the Mustangs to a 1-1 week. She netted six goals and assisted one in the 12-9 win over New Paltz before tallying a career high 10 goals and two assists (12 points) in the loss to Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday. Her performance against OWU set the record for the most goals scored (10) and most points (12) recorded in a single game, a record set in 2003.

Caffarelli leads Morrisville State in scoring with 31 goals and three assists (34 points), 23 ground balls and 22 draw controls through five games. She is currently ranked first in the SUNYAC in scoring, averaging 6.2 goals per game and 6.8 points per game.

The senior is majoring in entrepreneurship and small business management at Morrisville State and is a 2005 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. She is the daughter of Michael Caffarelli of Phillipsburg and Linda Solt of Nazareth, PA.

Morrisville State enters its third year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2008. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 75 bachelor and associate degrees and options. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
