CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Junior Anthony Meola (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) scored two of the Cazenovia College men’s soccer team’s four unanswered goals in a 4-1 victory over the Morrisville State Mustangs Thursday afternoon.

It was the second straight win for the Wildcats and their highest scoring output since a 5-1 victory over Thiel College on September 5. Cazenovia is now 7-6-1 overall with two regular season games remaining. Morrisville State dropped to 3-8-1 overall and has now lost seven straight contests.

In addition to Meola’s two goals, Cazenovia also received scores from junior Matt Gillis (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and freshman David Wright (East Islip, NY/East Islip). Gillis was also credited with two assists, while sophomore Logan Spaulding (Copenhagen, NY/Copenhagen) recorded one.

Morrisville State’s only score came by way of sophomore Olasunkanmi Majiyagbe (Brooklyn, NY), who was assisted by junior Jarrett Hayes (Potsdam, NY).

Just over 24 minutes went by in the first half without a score when Majiyagbe put the Mustangs up 1-0 as he put the ball past Cazenovia goalie Ryan Snyder (Dover Plains, NY/Dover Plains). The Wildcats immediately responded nine seconds later with a blast from 15 yards out from Gillis to even the score 1-1.The goal was the tenth of the season for Gillis, who also leads the team with five assists. In the 39th minute, Meola used his speed to chase down a pass from Spaulding and beat Morrisville State goalie Greg Igglesden (Norwich, NY) to break the 1-1 tie. Cazenovia led 2-1 at the break.

Eight minutes into the second half Meola added his second goal from three yards out on a long assist from Gillis to push the Wildcats lead to 3-1. In the 69th minute, Wright headed the ball in on a nice cross from Gillis to cap off the scoring for the Wildcats.

Snyder recorded three saves and allowed one goal in 75 minutes for Cazenovia, while backup Riley Battaglini (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) registered one save in 15 minutes of action.
