Humanities & Social Science :: Home
This is a university-parallel program that gives students a solid foundation in the Liberal Arts and Sciences similar to the first two years of the curriculum at a four-year liberal arts college or university. The program also provides a basis for further study leading to a bachelor degree in a variety of liberal arts areas, among them: psychology, criminal justice, education, human services, English, history, philosophy, communication and the arts.
The Liberal Arts: Humanities and Social Science program is comprised of the
Humanities Department and the
Social Science Department. Students enrolled in the program are required to complete a minimum of 45 semester hours of liberal arts courses, of which a minimum of 18 credits must be in the
humanities, a minimum of 18 credits in the
social sciences and a minimum of 9 credits must be in
math or science. The A.A. degree program is part of the SUNY-guaranteed admission program to four-year, state-operated campuses.
Primarily a degree that prepares students for transfer to a
bachelor degree program, the associate in arts could provide career opportunities in the business or social service fields.
Most students who complete the associate in arts degree transfer to a bachelor-degree-granting institution. Students transfer to institutions in the SUNY and CUNY systems and to private schools in the northeast and throughout the United States.
