Mechanical Engineering Technology A.A.S.
Graduate with a two-year Mechanical Engineering Technology degree are immediately employable in the field of engineering technology. Graduates might be involved in any number of the technical operations or procedures including product design, production planning, prototype building, testing, evaluation, materials selection, process planning, manufacturing, quality control, inspection, and facilities management. Mechanical Engineering Technology graduates may also choose a careers in customer service, distribution, sales or marketing.
Typically, Mechanical Engineering Technology two-year graduates are placed in entry level positions in manufacturing or related industrial companies, supervised by senior engineers, engineering technologists, or more experienced engineering technicians. Job titles and responsibilities vary greatly and include areas such as CAD, CAM, drafting, design, quality control, plant engineering, production planning, process planning, and marketing. There are many promotion opportunities and many graduates advance into supervisory, middle management, and executive positions after taking advantage of company sponsored training or company funded formal education.
The majority of Mechanical Engineering Technology graduates continue their education and earn a baccalaureate degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering technology. The program at Morrisville State College is transferable to four-year programs at institutions such as Buffalo State, SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Alfred State College, and many others within and outside New York state.
