Special Needs DentistryIn this course, Dr. Paula Sepanik outlines many common developmental disabilities both congenital and acquired and their impact on patientâ€™s oral health. She will emphasize practical solutions based upon clinical experiences. We will discuss issues such as MIPS (Medical Immobilization and Protective Stabilization), sedation and other challenges to treatment.
She will discuss alternative restorative materials, caries prevention and assistance devices in special needs population.
She will also discuss non-clinical issues that arise with treating special needs population including dealing with group homes, family and financial challenges to treatment. Dr. Sepanik presents referral options for more challenging cases.
The special needs population is a significantly underserved population that can be treated successfully in a private office setting.
