2019 Campus Construction Schedule

Below is a brief description of each project impacting campus operations for summer 2019 and scheduled impacts prior to commencement:

Whipple/STUAC Utilities and Tennis Courts

Project replaces water line to Crawford Hall, heating lines between Whipple Administration Building and STUAC, and provides summer hot water for Crawford Hall, Whipple Administration Building and the Library. The work also widens the service drive to STUAC, reconfigures service lot parking, and replaces the tennis court area with new recreational basketball and beach volleyball courts and more recreational flat green space. The tennis court replacement will be completed following the start of classes in fall 2019.

The Whipple Administration Building parking lot will have limited parking in the early part of the summer, and the lower plaza and service drive between Whipple and STUAC also will be partially affected.

Scheduled impacts prior to commencement:

  • Contractor will begin to mobilize and set up fencing the week of April 15 in the vicinity of the service drive south of Whipple Administration Building and the tennis court area. Additional notifications will follow.

Utility Project (Big Dig) Continued

This project replaced utilities and added the grand staircase and an elevator to the library last year. This year, the finishing touches will be completed and the replacements will move north from the Spader Complex to the south quad area between Shannon Hall and Marshall Hall. Utility replacements in the northern part of the Iroquois Quad will also occur with complete restoration of new sidewalks, site lighting and landscaping.

Scheduled impacts prior to commencement:

  • The north end of Shannon Hall lot S will be fenced off until further notice beginning Friday, April 5.
  • The section of Chenango Road at Shannon Hall will be closed to through traffic April 8-10. Two-way traffic will be allowed from Route 20 using flaggers to access Hamilton Hall and Charlton Hall lots. Bus routing has been altered to accommodate the closure.
  • Portions of the sidewalk between Onondaga Hall and Crawford Hall will be closed beginning the week of April 8 to complete landscape and sidewalk work between the two buildings. Access between Crawford Hall and Onondaga Hall will be maintained and the west and south entrances to Crawford Hall and the grand staircase will be available.

Electrical Infrastructure Project

This project replaces all of the underground electric service across the campus with an upgraded redundant loop and replaces the switch gear in most buildings. All of the underground work was completed last year, and power outages will be conducted in all of the buildings this year to switch them over to the new loop beginning immediately following commencement and continuing through the beginning of August. A schedule of the power outages has been distributed campuswide, but you may contact Bob Rodriquez at ext. 6996 for a copy of the schedule.

Crawford Roof Replacement

This project will replace the entire roof of Crawford Hall. Work will begin in April and continue through the beginning of August.

Scheduled impacts prior to commencement:

  • The contractor will mobilize into the small patio area between Whipple Administration Building and Crawford Hall to start work on the lower roof areas in the southwest corner of Crawford Hall the week of April 8. The contractor will bring materials across the lower plaza to that area prior to 8 a.m. and then work with the fenced area. Emergency egress will be maintained from Crawford Hall basement doors.
