Courtney Supa's diverse experiences at Morrisville State College have taken her many places. Through her agricultural business development major, she's traveled to farms to assist in appraisal processes, has visited local consumer markets and has roamed to destinations throughout the world via her laptop computer.

T-shirts emblazoned with words of hope and a bandage transcending through a red heart, are becoming a common sight on the Morrisville State College campus. The insignia, WeHeartHaiti, decorating posters on classroom walls, hallways and dining areas too, illustrates a campus-wide crusade to support Haiti relief efforts in the wake of the 7.0 earthquake that ravaged the impoverished Caribbean nation.

Morrisville State College instructor Loren Maki is among automotive professionals selected to present at VISION KC 2010, a hi-tech automotive training conference and expo in Kansas City, Missouri March 4-7. Maki, of Canastota, N.Y., will present a “train the trainer” seminar March 6 and 7 on Techniques For Teaching Automotive Troubleshooting.

The seminar, for consulting engineers, heating contractors and heating equipment suppliers, is scheduled Feb. 26, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica.

Two Syracuse residents have joined the Morrisville State College staff. Melissa Reider is executive director of Advancement and College Relations. Amy Roberts is director of Public Relations. In her new role, Reider oversees fundraising, public relations, alumni affairs, government relations, and career services.

Sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snow sculpting are among the activities planned for Winter Fest, which will be held Feb. 13 from 2-7 p.m. Events will take place at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Building and the Morrisville-Eaton Elementary School baseball field, both located on Eaton Street.

Morrisville State College's Renewable Energy Training Center (RETC) is hosting two one-day workshops pertaining to solar and wind energy. Solar PV Site Assessment and Proposals—A Contractor's Perspective is scheduled for Jan. 29 and Small Wind Site Assessment and Proposals—A Contractor's Perspective is scheduled for Feb. 5. Both workshops are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the RETC located in Shannon Hall. Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m.

Tim Penix, of Syracuse, was recently hired as vice president of the Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). Penix has worked at Morrisville State College since 1998, most recently as associate vice president for academic enrichment. Throughout his tenure, he served in a variety of capacities including director of multicultural affairs. He also worked as an admissions counselor at the college from 1992 to 1995.

Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce Development and Community Education is offering a class to help students prepare for the S.A.T. The eight-week course, S.A.T. Prep, meets Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon, from Feb. 27 to April 24 (class will not be held on April 3) at the college's Norwich Campus, 20 Conkey Ave., adjacent to the Eaton Center in Norwich.

Morrisville State College will host an inspiring presentation, “Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” by award-winning author and actor, Barry Scott, on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. in the John W. Stewart Center for Student Activities (STUAC) theatre. During the event, which is free and open to the public, Scott will discuss the Civil Rights Movement and will also portray King, recreating some of his most inspiring speeches.

It was the first time he had lived away from home. Frank Malpigli packed a suitcase filled with clothes, a toothbrush and soccer ball and headed off to college. The Long Island native knew little about Morrisville State College, the place in Central New York where he would spend the next two years amassing a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be arriving in the village of Morrisville on Dec. 4 for the annual Christmas tree lighting and carol sing. The free event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Crouse Community Center on South Street. The campus and village are invited to participate in the event, which will be held regardless of local weather-related school closings.

Twelve candidates from all over the world spent four days at Morrisville State College performing testing on the college's horses to become certified by the International Association of Equine Dentistry (IAED).

The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) recently released its pre-season weight class individual rankings, selecting Morrisville State College sophomore wrestler, Wheeler Brunschmid (Sherburne, NY/Sherburne-Earlville) fifth in the 184 pound weight class. Brunschmid finished last season with a 12-13 overall record, recording one technical fall, two major decisions and three pins in his freshman campaign.

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—Morrisville State College’s Renewable Energy Training Center (RETC) is hosting a two-day workshop on Small-Scale Biodiesel Production and Diesel Vehicle Veggie Conversion, June 11-12 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Morrisville State College RETC in Shannon Hall. The workshop is an introduction to small-scale batch biodiesel production and diesel automobile modifications for all-season use of waste vegetable oil and biodiesel.

The Morrisville State College women's soccer team fought to a 0-0 tie against SUNY Cobleskill this evening in conference play. The Mustangs are now to 1-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play, while the Fighting Tigers are now 2-4-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the NEAC. Both teams had several opportunities to score, but strong defensive play and goaltending on both ends kept the game scoreless. Jody Pendergast (Phoenix, N.Y.) records the tie for Cobleskill, tallying six saves.
