Learn how to give people the nutrition they need when you join our Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program in dietetic technician/nutrition care. You’ll focus on the role of human nutrition in health and disease as well as the application of nutrition principles in wellness, fitness and total health.
The program provides you with practical experience along with the theoretical content presented in the classroom. This includes the full-service Copper Turret Restaurant, the FDA-inspected food processing incubator, Nelson Farms Country Store, our dietetic demonstration kitchen, a variety of health and wellness laboratories, and several field experience locations.
Your studies also include 450 hours of supervised field experience in a variety of schools, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and community nutrition sites.
Upon completion of the program, you will meet the requirements to sit for the national credentialing exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. With successful passage of the exam, graduates will become Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTR).
You can enhance your career in dietetics as a registered dietitian by transferring to colleges that have a four-year program in dietetics. SUNY Morrisville has articulation agreements with Syracuse University, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Plattsburgh, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
