Freshman forward Caitlyn Adams (Sherburne, N.Y.) posted a collegiate high 22 points, and added 13 rebounds for her first double-double, leading Morrisville State College women’s basketball to a 63-40 win over host Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon in Chambersburg. The victory is the second straight for the Mustangs, who improve to 4-7 overall and pull even at 2-2 in NEAC action.
Host Nichols College scored five first period goals and added three more in the final stanza to top visiting Morrisville State College hockey by a 9-4 non-conference decision Saturday night in Rhode Island. The loss is the second straight for the Mustangs, who fall to 3-9-1 on the season. Four posted tallies for Morrisville State, including Matt Beer (Corunna, ON) who finally got the Mustangs on the board with a power play tally just three minutes into the second period after being blanked in the first.
In a year that has seen several student-athletes post record breaking performances, another was added to the record books Wednesday night, as men’s basketball senior guard and captain Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, N.Y. /  Henninger) notched his 1,000th career point on the road at Alfred State College. Hanks is just the third player in program history to achieve the feat, the first four-year Division III student-athlete at Morrisville State to cross the milestone threshold. 
The Morrisville State women’s basketball team got off to a rocky start Tuesday night, and could not recover, as they dropped a 59-36 non-conference contest to host Bard College. The loss drops the Mustangs to 2-7 overall, as they look to rebound from the loss Thursday, hosting Penn College of Technology. Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts, netting a team high 14 points and seven rebounds, adding two assists and a steal to her tallies on the night. Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) added eight points and two steals in the Mustang efforts.
The Morrisville State College men’s ice hockey team resumed play Saturday afternoon at the University of New England, and dropped the non-conference tilt 5-4 in overtime. The loss drops the Mustangs to 3-8-1 overall. John Doyle (New Lowell, ON) scored twice to lead the Morrisville State efforts, while teammate Ryan Marcuz (Richmond Hill, ON) added a goal and an assist. Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, ON) posted the other Mustang tally on the day. Chris Azzano (Oshawa, ON) recorded the loss in net, turning away 29, including 12 in the third period.
The Morrisville State College women’s cross country team recorded a 7th place finish overall Saturday morning, compiling 180 scoring points at the SUNYIT Invite in Marcy. Senior Billie Jo Hinds (Oriskany, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with a seventh place individual finish, crossing the 5K race line with a time of 21:16, out of 143 runners.
An unlucky bounce gave the Morrisville State College men’s soccer team a 2-1 loss Saturday afternoon to Houghton College at the Oswego Tournament in Oswego. The Mustangs drop to 1-1 overall, while Houghton notches their first win of the season for a 1-0-1 record. Houghton took an early 1-0 lead off an unassisted score early in the opening half, before Chernor Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.) got past a Highlander defender and fired past the goalie for the game tying tally in the 30th minute.
The Morrisville State College field hockey team battled to a 1-1 tie after regulation and was unable to hold on as a costly foul within the circle in the extra period led to the game winning tally by Wells Saturday afternoon in Aurora. Ilze Stots (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) notched the Mustangs lone score nearly 14 minutes into the contest, collecting a rebound shot off Wells keeper Sydney Line, and firing it into the boards for the 1-0 Morrisville State lead.
The Morrisville State College men’s cross country team opened the 2013 season Saturday with a 7th place finish overall at the SUNYIT Short Course Invitational in Marcy. Sophomore Anthony Ostuni (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with a 36th overall finish, crossing the line for the 6K race in 21:48, as Morrisville State compiled 227 scoring points.
The Morrisville State College men’s soccer team is coming off a historical season from just a year ago, and will take the field for the first time in 2013, Friday afternoon at the SUNY Oswego Tournament against rival Alfred University.
