Tables brimming with vibrant-colored bouquets, boutonnieres and floral-crafted pumpkins filled a production room in Morrisville State College's horticulture complex—the work of horticulture students diligently transforming stems of miniature Calla Lilies, roses and other blooms into stunning showpieces. They were there helping Melissa Orth, a Morrisville State College horticulture graduate who flew in from California to prepare a floral array for a weekend family wedding.
Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce and Development is offering a free course in Basic Air Sealing and Insulation (BASI), Oct. 21 from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Morrisville campus. The one-day overview of BASI will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of Building Science and Building Performance, in addition to the “systems approach” and techniques for air sealing and insulation.
LEED® green training is among the free community education courses being offered through Morrisville State College's Office of Workforce and Development. The three-day course, LEED® Green Associate, will be held Oct. 3-5, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Morrisville campus. The same course will be offered again April 16-18, 2012.
The Morrisville College Equine Institute will hold its twenty-second annual Fall Yearling Sale Sept. 25 at 11 a.m. at the college's Nancy Sears Stowell Arena on Swamp Road. The preview day for the sale, the largest of its kind in New York state, is Sept. 24. A total of 202 yearlings are up for sale. Eighteen of them are being sold by the Morrisville Equine Institute: five yearlings of Conway Hall; four yearlings of Cash Hall; two yearlings of RC Royalty; four yearlings out of the first crop by Kenneth J; and three yearlings of American Ideal.
There won't be any textbooks in Morrisville State College Professor Roberta Sloan's Systems Analysis class this semester. They've been replaced with a lightweight computer tablet that's putting learning within students' touch. The new Apple iPad2 tablet device is enabling them to access eTextbooks—a savvy new way to view text and other educational resources electronically without the bulk or cost of a textbook.
The Morrisville State College Baccalaureate Nursing Program will host a site review for initial accreditation of its RN to BS nursing program. The public is invited to meet the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) visit team and share their comments about the program in person at a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 2-2:30 p.m. in room 130 Charlton Hall, on the Morrisville campus. Written comments are also welcome and should be submitted by September 16, 2011 directly to: Dr.
Morrisville State College professor Dr. Christopher Scalzo took his vast entrepreneurial expertise overseas this summer to help several companies in Kenya and Lebanon. The associate professor of business and entrepreneurship first traveled to Kenya, East Africa, for three weeks to continue his efforts in helping a soy and maize producing company enhance its operations.
It's been an entertaining summer for Cletus, Chief, Jay, Tarzan, Mac and Cap. The alluring athletes of Morrisville State College's six-horse Belgian hitch have been traveling throughout the nation performing in competitions and exhibitions, dazzling crowds and earning their share of kudos along the way.
The following School of Business students/graduates were awarded scholarships at Morrisville State College. The Bert Hundredmark Memorial Scholarship was awarded to gaming and casino management students, Boyce Neff, of Dryden and Rebecca Barlow, of Groton. The Bill Jones Scholarship was awarded to Elise Rinehart, of Ellington, a resort and recreation service management: technology management bachelor degree student.
Morrisville State College won three Judges' Citation awards from the SUNYCUAD Awards for Excellence program for the 2010-2011 academic year. MSC received Judges' Citations in the categories of: Visual Design in Print: Specialty Pieces category – “Social Media Campaign” brochure; Fundraising: Publications Category – “Stadium Campaign;” and the Advertising: Television category, for its new commercial called “In Motion.” For each category, the judges award a Best of Category and two Judges' Citations.
