Congratulations to all of this year’s SUNY Morrisville graduates!

The SUNY Morrisville 2024 Commencement is quickly approaching! This year’s Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m. in the new Student Recreation Center, located next to the IcePlex.

Please find below helpful steps regarding Commencement day:

Commencement Day

Cap & Gown

A cap and gown are required for all participating graduates. If you have not already done so, please be sure to purchase your cap and gown as soon as possible to ensure your size is available. Stop into the Campus Store to visit their website to order.

Location

The ceremony will be held indoors in the SUNY Morrisville Student Recreation Center, located next to the IcePlex.

Doors open at 11 a.m

For the safety of everyone attending the ceremony, all bags will be checked upon entry to the Student Recreation Center. 

Arrival and Lineup

Be sure to arrive by noon on Saturday, May 11, for lineup with your program. Lineup will take place at the IcePlex.

There is no required rehearsal for graduates prior to Saturday's ceremony, except for those who have an assigned role such as flag and standard bearers (who will be notified separately ahead of time with further instructions). 

Parking

Most campus parking lots are available for visitor parking on Commencement day. New York State University Police will assist visitors with parking. A shuttle also will run from various parking lots to the Student Recreation Center continuously from 11 am.-1 p.m.

Guest Seating

Tickets are required for entry to the ceremony. At this time, we are currently at capacity and no additional guest tickets are available. Please see below for an additional viewing location available on campus.

Accessibility seating sections also are available. Please check with ushers at the ceremony site if you require specific assistance.

Viewing Location

A viewing of the ceremony will be available at the Student Activities Center Theater, where additional family members and guests may comfortably view the proceedings. No tickets are required at the viewing location. College personnel are happy to assist family and friends with finding the additional viewing location the day of the ceremony.

Duration

The ceremony is estimated to last approximately two hours.

Flower & Concession Sales

A flower & concession sales station will be set up in front of the Student Recreation Center. Roses and bouquets can be purchased, and snacks and bottled water are also being sold. Sales begin at 11 a.m. and run through the ceremony (or until sold out). Cash payment only.

Following Commencement

As has become tradition for many graduating classes, be sure to take a photo in front of the Mustang Statue! The statue, which has become integral to Morrisville pride, is located in the Administrative Quad found in front of the Whipple Administration Building.

Reception

All graduates and their guests are invited to a campus reception on the Administrative Quad directly following the ceremony (rain location: STUAC gym).

Campus Store 

You worked hard for your diploma, so why not show it off in a beautiful frame? You can find frame options and much more at the SUNY Morrisville Campus Store, open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Commencement day. 

Dining

The Copper Turret Restaurant, which serves as a teaching facility for our students, is an American-style bistro that prides itself on a delicious and innovative menu. Advanced reservations can be made by calling 315.684.6699.

Lodging

If you have family or friends traveling to the area for the ceremony, be sure to secure lodging at one of the many excellent options available near campus. Please visit the Madison County Tourism website for a list of places to stay during their visit.

Application to Graduate

All graduates, regardless of whether they intend to participate in Commencement, should have completed an Application to Graduate through Web for Students by April 1. If you did not do so, please reach out to the Office of the Registrar.
