Wright, Whitcombe named Morrisville State athletes of the week

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. –The Morrisville State College athletic department has named Nicole Wright (Dryden, NY) and Erik Whitcombe (Ogdensburg, NY) the Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 6.

Wright, a senior middle hitter for the women’s volleyball team, led Morrisville State to a 2-2 week, as the Mustangs opened their 2010 season campaign at the D’Youville College Tournament. In four games for the Mustangs, Wright tallied 35 kills, three service aces and had 30 defensive digs, earning her all-Tournament team honors.

The graduate of Dryden High is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Becky Ayers of Dryden, NY.

Whitcombe, freshman midfielder, led the men’s soccer team to a 1-1 week, netting his first collegiate hat trick in the 4-3 come from behind victory over Green Mountain College.

Whitcombe is a 2010 graduate of Ogdensburg High and is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. He is the son of Carol and Bob Whitcombe of Ogdensburg, NY.

Morrisville State College offers more than 80 bachelor and associate degrees and options. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
