Townsend named to Team of the Week

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – announced yesterday its Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, naming Morrisville State College freshman forward/center, Nijah Townsend (Bronx, NY) to its women’s team.

The Team of the Week is a weekly honor roll in its 14th season that recognizes the top performance at each of the five playing positions in basketball from the previous week.

Townsend posted two double-double performances in a 2-1 week for Morrisville State, recording 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 65-52 loss to Keuka before leading the Mustangs with 23 points and nine boards in a 80-65 win over College of St. Elizabeth. In the conference win, Townsend went 10-for-17 from the floor and hit 3-of-4 shots from the free throw line.

On Sunday, Townsend recorded her third collegiate double-double, netting 14 points and grabbing a collegiate high 17 rebounds in a victory over Wilson, playing all 40 minutes.

Currently leading the team in rebounding, and second in scoring, Townsend is averaging 14.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for the Mustangs.

The 2010 graduate of Harry S. Truman High is majoring in criminal justice at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Yvette and Desmond Townsend of Bronx.
