Morrisville State College gears up for Mustang Weekend

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.--Morrisville State College is preparing for a weekend of festivities in celebration of Mustang Weekend Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
A fishing derby at the Helyar Pond on South Street will kickoff the event. The derby, hosted by the Morrisville Fisheries Society, will be held from 1-5 p.m. A New York state fishing license is not required. The entry fee is $3 per person.
The Mustang Weekend celebration is open to parents, faculty, staff, alumni, emeriti and their families and all members of the community.
Other activities scheduled for Sept. 30 include: Lady Mustangs soccer vs. Mohawk Valley Community College at 4 p.m.; family entertainer, Fred Gee, in concert at 6:15 p.m. in Madison Hall; ice cream social (featuring Morrisville State College’s own ice cream) hosted by Morrisville State College President Ray Cross at 7 p.m. in Madison Hall; fireworks display at 8:15 p.m.; and a concert by the Canastota Community Band at 9 p.m. in Madison Hall.
Highlights from events on Oct. 1 include: The annual Madison Hall 5K walk/run at 9 a.m.; alumni lacrosse game at 10 a.m.; horticulture open house and floral design contest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Spader Horticulture building; “Cruisin’ Down Memory Lane” parade at 10:30 a.m.; family brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; craft fair from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the gymnasium of Hamilton Hall; alumni luncheon; automotive technology open house and cruise-in (car show) at the Automotive Technology Building from noon to 4 p.m.; Mustang football vs. Dean Junior College at 2:30 p.m.; community/campus carnival from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the academic quad; complimentary community/campus picnic from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the academic quad; and an alumni hockey game at 7:30 p.m. A casino night is also planned.
All activities will take place on the Morrisville State College campus. Generous funding collaboration allows the campus to host the majority of Mustang Weekend programs with minimal cost to participants.
