Kyle Martin joins Morrisville State basketball staff
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College head men’s basketball coach, Joseph Smith, recently announced the addition of Kyle Martin to the coaching staff for the 2012-2013 season.
The Tully, N.Y. native comes to Morrisville State from Hamilton College where he served as the assistant men’s basketball coach in 2011.
While at Hamilton, Martin was responsible for day-to-day operations within the basketball program, including practice/game management and recruiting, along with film breakdown and scouting of opponents. The Hamilton Continentals appeared in the NESCAC quarterfinals and had a player earn All-Region and D3hoops.com All-American honors.
Prior to Hamilton, Martin served as the Upstate AAU Basketball head coach in Syracuse, running all aspects of the program for two years.
Martin has been actively involved in camps and clinics throughout the Northeast, serving as a staff member at the elite Hoop Group Skills Camp, Bob Hurley Pocono Invitational, Five-Star Basketball Camp, Villanova Basketball Camp, and LeMoyne College Basketball Camp.
The three time letter winner and two-time all-league selection at Tully High led the team to an Onondaga League Championship, earning Most Valuable Player honors for the team and Zebra Classic All-Star Tournament recognition.
Martin graduated from the University at Albany in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. While at Albany, he was a member of the men’s lacrosse team that won two America East Conference Championship Titles and appeared in two NCAA Division I Championship Tournaments.
He currently holds a New York State Basketball Coaching Certification from SUNY Cortland.
Morrisville State captured the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship title last season, receiving the program’s first ever bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs will open the season campaign November 16 at the SUNY Oswego Tip-Off Tournament against Medgar Evers.
