Morrisville State ranks in U.S. News and World Report

MORRISVILLE, NY—Morrisville State has been ranked among the Best Regional Colleges in the North in the U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges 2014 issue. The publication is renowned for its higher education rankings.

The USNWR rankings are released annually and rely on data provided by universities to produce college rankings on a variety of factors reflecting academic quality.

“Morrisville State is very pleased with the recognition of being named one of the Best Regional Colleges in the North,” said Dr. William Murabito, college president. “This citation confirms that the college sponsors one of the region’s best student-oriented institutions with emphasis on student-centered, hands-on technology programming that sets the campus apart from its peers. The campus is especially proud of the faculty who mentor students through their college experience to graduation and then on to excellent employment opportunities.”

According to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, regional colleges focus mainly on the undergraduate experience and offer a broad range of programs in liberal arts (which account for fewer than half of all bachelor’s degrees granted) and in fields such as business, nursing and education. They grant few graduate degrees. Because most of the 367 colleges in the category draw heavily from nearby states, they are ranked by region.

Regional Universities and Regional Colleges are divided and ranked in four geographical groups: North, South, Midwest and West. Ranking methodologies vary by discipline.

Morrisville is also listed in the Top Public Schools, Regional Colleges North in the 2014 Best Colleges rankings.

Also making the grade in the USNWR rankings are 23 other SUNY institutions.

Morrisville State sets the world in motion for students. Curriculums are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses.
