Morrisville State softball concludes inaugural NCAA season with split against Oswego State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.¬ – The Morrisville State College softball team conclude their inaugural NCAA season with a split against Oswego State Saturday afternoon in Morrisville. Oswego State took the first game from the Mustangs 11-7, while the Mustangs rallied to take the second game 11-9.

In game one, the Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Mustangs led by Melissa Robb (Marcellus, NY) hit a grand slam to give the Mustangs a 5-1 lead. Robb finished the game 1-for-3 from the plate and four RBI’s, as Nicole Palmer (Annadale, VA) added two hits for the Mustangs.

Oswego State stormed back with four runs in the fourth and five in the sixth, as Heather Merino (Lake George, NY) went 3-for-4 from the plate with five RBI’s, as Carolyn Agle (Eden, NY), Kelly Cooper (Utica, NY) and Jessica Mills (Wallkill, NY) each added two hits, as the Lakers picked up the win 11-7.

Kim Acker (Blue Point, NY) recorded the loss on the mound for the Mustangs, allowing twelve hits and striking five.

In game two, Oswego jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, as the Lakers scored five runs in the second inning led by Merino’s three run double, as Mills went 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Oswego State finishes the season at 7-22.

The Mustangs scored five runs in fourth and fifth innings to take the game 11-9. They were led by Jessica Squire (Hinckley, NY) who went 4-for-4 from the plate with three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Tiffany Randall (Hamilton, NY) and Jill Pedulla (Peru, NY) each recorded two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the Mustangs.

Gretchen Cramer (Grand Ledge, MI) recorded the win on the mound for the Mustangs, allowing ten hits while striking four.

Morrisville State finishes the season at 8-20 overall.
