Morrisville State College Welcomes Students

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. —Morrisville State College will be a flurry of activity this weekend as it welcomes a new class of freshmen and transfer and returning students during Welcome Weekend which begins Aug. 23 and continues until Aug. 26.

Most first-year (freshmen and transfer) students will be arriving on campus Aug. 23, while returning students will be arriving on Aug. 25 and 26.

An Academic Convocation for all first-year students, welcoming them to the Morrisville campus, will be held on Aug. 24. Students should be at Hamilton Hall by 9:15 a.m. for the ceremony which begins at 9:30 a.m.

A variety of events have been planned for Welcome Weekend including a mixer and dance party for first-year students Aug. 23, classroom tours Aug. 24, casino night Aug. 25, and various recreational opportunities including open swim and open recreation basketball and a game show Aug. 26. Classes begin Aug. 27.

Laptop and cellular phones will be distributed throughout Welcome Weekend and new students will receive training in how to use their cellular phones and laptops.

Welcome Weekend is an opportunity for students to become familiar or reacquaint themselves with the campus and all it has to offer.

One of the highlights students have to look forward to at the Morrisville State College Campus is access to the fastest wireless connection in the world—an 802.11n wireless system by Meru Networks, which will be fully implemented by the end of September.

Morrisville State College offers more than 75 bachelor and associate degrees and options with six new degrees being offered this fall: entrepreneurship and small business management, B.B.A.; nursing, B.S.; horticulture business management, B.T.; human performance and health promotion, B.S.; criminal justice, A.A.S. (Norwich Campus only); and human services, A.A.S. (Norwich Campus only).

Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
