Morrisville State falls to Oneonta field hockey, 3-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State field hockey fell to Oneonta by the final 3-0 Tuesday evening in Morrisville.

Oneonta struck first at the 20:07 mark as Kathryn Kubaryk (Warrensburg, NY/Warrenburg) scored the first of two goals on a breakaway to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead. Leslieann Gutchess (Marathon, NY/Marathon) also scored to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 win.

Erika Dombkowski (Carmel, NY/Carmel) tallied 5 saves in the win for Oneonta, who improved to 8-7 overall, 4-2 in SUNYAC competition.

Morrisville State keeper, Stephanie Smith (Cedarville, NY/ Mt. Markham) tallied 4 saves in the loss for the Mustangs who fall to 2-12 overall, 0-6 in SUNYAC competition.

Morrisville State College returns to the field Saturday against Houghton College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Morrisville.

Morrisville State enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2007. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
