Morrisville State's Aljamain Sterling takes seventh at NYS Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Morrisville State College’s Aljamain Sterling (Uniondale, NY) placed seventh overall at the New York State Wrestling Championships Saturday afternoon in Buffalo.

Among Division I, II and III wrestlers, Sterling posted a 3-2 overall record in the 133 pound weight class to claim the seventh place. In the opening round, Sterling pinned Nick Boghos (Wagner) in 4:30 before falling to eventual champion Chris Natte (Nassau) in the next round.

In wrestlebacks, Sterling defeated Tom Masciale (NYU) 3-2 before falling 9-8 to Joe Ranzenbach (NYU). Sterling posted a 2-0 victory over Jerome Greco (Columbia) to claim the seventh place finish.

Morrisville State finished in 16th place overall as a team, tallying 10.5 points.

The Mustangs return to the mats on Wednesday against RIT. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the John W. Stewart Center on the Morrisville State campus.

Morrisville State enters its second year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2007. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 70 bachelor and associate degrees. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine. The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus also offers programs in business, technologies, liberal arts/education transfer, and nursing to Chenango County area residents and employers.
