Morrisville defeats Cazenovia in Route 20 Rivalry

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Cazenovia College Wildcats men’s lacrosse team lost to the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs, 10-4, Monday afternoon under wet and windy conditions.

Cazenovia dropped to 2-8 on the season, while Morrisville picked up their first win of 2008 and is now 1-11 overall.
Morrisville’s Tim Bobbett (Cazenovia, NY) and Tim Barth (Rush, NY) scored the first two goals of the game to give the Mustangs the early 2-0 lead. Freshman Nathan Rosenberger (La Mesa, CA/Grossmont) scored Cazenovia’s first goal at the 2:52 mark of the first quarter to put the Wildcats within one, 2-1, but Morrisville scored the next four goals of the game to take a 6-1 lead. Freshman Kyle Boland (Clifton Park, NY/CBA) scored a goal for the Wildcats with just under six minutes left in the third quarter to pull Cazenovia to within four going into the last quarter. However, Morrisville outscored the Wildcats 4-2 in the last period to secure the win.

The Mustangs won 11-of-16 face-offs in the contests and picked up 17 more (42-25) ground balls than Cazenovia. Morrisville outshot Cazenovia 38-29, including 26-12 in the second half.

Sophomore Pat Sauers (Saranac Lake, NY/Saranac Lake) scored the other two goals of the game for the Wildcats. Senior Chris Harrington (Cortland, NY/Cortland) had 12 saves in 60 minutes in goal for Cazenovia.

Eric Stein (Oswego, NY) had three goals to lead Morrisville in the win. Goalie Jeremy Hunt (Bourne, MA) had 11 saves in net for Morrisville.
