Nelson Farms Rings in Holiday Spirit With Gift Baskets and Array of Products For Public to Choose From

MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—Amid bright-colored bows, sparkling snowmen and festive lights, hands are busy at work filling baskets with tantalizing treats for the holiday season at the Nelson Farms Country Store.

The store, the retail arm of Nelson Farms, Morrisville State College’s small-scale food processing plant, is brimming with holiday goodies, offering tailored gift baskets filled with savory delights and an array of products produced by local entrepreneurs for sale to the public.

There’s a lot to choose from—shelves packed with New York state local products ranging from jams and jellies and salsas to syrups, barbecue sauces, mustards, dressings, pancake mixes, chocolate sauces, nuts, candy and more.
Saturdays feature special samplings or highlighted products. During the holiday season, visitors may sample McLaren’s Cookies on Dec. 3 and Fish Creek Pomegranate Sauce and Vinaigrette on Dec. 15. The tastings, from noon to 3 p.m., are free and open to the public.

The store boasts a warm room filled with scents of spices and coffee offers products that include sauces, spices and ice cream. Hanging from the ceiling are baskets dazzling with sparkles and color with a variety of sizes for patrons to choose to fill.

This year, due to a growing number of products, now more than 450, a second room is also filled with pastas and various items.

There is even a corner to keep children entertained while parents shop.

Patrons can choose from pre-made baskets or can have them tailored and personalized to fit their individual tastes. Small wooden boxes are also available to fill.

Pat Taft, Country Store manager, is willing and can customize any gift.

“This year so far the variety basket, containing a wide selection of Pride of New York products, has been the most popular,” she said.

But she can also arrange a clever chocolate, breakfast or other themed basket.

To make shopping more convenient, orders can also be taken online at www.nelsonfarms.org.

“We’ve made it so people who don’t want to go outside can purchase local products without leaving their home,” Dave Evans, director of Nelson Farms, said.

Items can be shipped anywhere in the Continental U.S.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The store will be open Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
