Royals snap 12-match losing streak by downing Morrisville wreslting 30-19

SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton overcame an 11-0 deficit after the first two matches to pull out a 30-19 victory over Morrisville State College Saturday at the Long Center.

The Royals won four of the last five bouts to snap a 12-match losing streak and improve to 2-12 on the season.

Posting wins for Scranton were junior Mike Guenther (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional), sophomores Luke Genovese (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown) and Steve Glickman (Pennsauken, N.J./Holy Cross-Delran), and freshman Matthew Terry (East Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony’s). Guenther improved to 13-13 on the season and 33-37 in his career by pinning Goodson Philippe at 3:42 of the second period at 157. Glickman earned his first win of the year and the fourth of his career with a 4-3 decision over Matt Aird at 165, while Terry improved to 8-15 on the season with a 2-1 decision over Chandler McGray at 174. Genovese, now 5-11 overall and 8-29 in his career, put the match out of reach by pinning Wheeler Brunschmid at the 1:29 mark of the first period at 184 to give Scranton a 24-13 lead with only one bout remaining.

The Royals will return to action next Saturday, February 7, against Muhlenberg College beginning at 11:00 a.m. Scranton will also host Oswego St., The College of New Jersey, and the Apprentice School (Va.).
