CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Junior Colleen Clarke (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) poured in a game-high 29 points as the Cazenovia College women’s basketball team put an end to their 10-game losing streak with a 70-50 win over the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs Saturday afternoon.

Clarke also registered a game-high eight steals and grabbed seven rebounds for the Wildcats, who earned their second victory of the season and now sit at 2-21. Sophomore Samantha Allen (Dexter, NY/Sacketts Harbor) just missed out on a triple-double, with 15 points, eight assists and a game-high 12 rebounds in 40 minutes of action from the point guard spot. Junior Christine Nichols (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) chipped in 11.

The Wildcats shot just 33 percent from the floor for the game, but did take 32 trips to the free throw line, converting on 19 of them. Cazenovia also forced 30 turnovers and scored 31 points off the miscues. Fast break opportunities were plentiful for the Wildcats, as they held a 16-4 advantage in that category with 14 points coming in the second half.

The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead over the game’s first four minutes and battled with the Wildcats for the next eight minutes. After a 15-15 tie at the 7:57 mark, Cazenovia went on a 15-7 run to end the half and take an eight-point lead into the locker rooms.

The Wildcats came out of the break playing the same way they did in the first half, and shot the ball at a 45 percent clip, compared to 22 in the first 20 minutes. Cazenovia never surrendered the lead, going up by as many as 26 points late in the game before settling for the 20-point victory.

Morrisville was led by freshman Courtney Terzi’s (Little Falls, NY) 11 points and freshman Sybil Stanton’s (Walton, NY) 10 rebounds.
