Smith, Bobbett named Morrisville State College "Athletes of the Week"

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College athletic department has recently named softball catcher and outfielder, Cassandra Smith (Lansing, NY) and men’s lacrosse attack man, Tim Bobbett (Cazenovia, NY) the Mustang “Athletes of the Week” for the week ending March 29.

Smith led the softball team to a 2-4 week, recording her best performance in the sweep over Wells College on Wednesday. Smith was 2-for-6 at the plate, hitting two doubles and two RBI’s while scoring a run. Defensively she added five put outs.

Against Fredonia and Buffalo State, Smith led Morrisville State defensively, adding 10 put outs to her tallies.

The freshman is majoring in individual studies at Morrisville State College and is the daughter of Tracy and Douglas Smith of Lansing, NY.

Bobbett led the men’s lacrosse team to a 1-1 week, tallying two goals and an assist in the 10-7 loss to Keuka before tallying five goals and two assists in the 23-2 win over Wells College.

Bobbett’s seven points against Wells College is his best collegiate performance in a single game to date.

The junior is majoring in renewable resources at Morrisville State and is the son of Michelle and Mark Bobbett of Cazenovia, NY.

Morrisville State enters its third year as a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III in 2008. Upon successful completion of the provisional period, Morrisville State will be a candidate for full accreditation as a member of the NCAA.

Morrisville State College offers more than 75 bachelor and associate degrees and options. Considered to be one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the nation for its ThinkPad University program and wireless technology initiative, the college recently became the first in the nation to comprehensively replace landlines in residence halls with individual cellular phones. Morrisville State College was also chosen as one of the top five colleges in the nation for campus activities by Campus Activities magazine.

The Morrisville State College Norwich Campus offers associate degree programs in accounting, business, computer systems technology, office administration, liberal arts transfer, nursing, early childhood, criminal justice and human services to south central New York residents and employers. Students may also apply coursework to other associate or bachelor degrees at the main campus.
